The composition of the 72nd Legislative District might suprise you. Of the 100 districts making up the Kentucky House of Represntatives, the 72nd District covers the longest geograhical range, spanning over 70 miles across.
Bourbon, Bath, Nicholas, & Fayette Counties
The 28,000 Kentuckians in the district live in some of the state's most scenic and historic towns including Paris, North Middletown, Millersburg, Owingsville, Salt Lick, Sharpsburg, Carlisle, and northeast Lexington.
Why has a Special Election been called for January 8, 2008?
The previous Representative for the 72nd District, Carolyn Belcher, resigned after being elected Bath County Judge-Executive in the November 2007 Election. To fill the vacancy, the Governor called a Special Election for January 8, 2008. The winner of the Special Election will serve out the final year of the two year term.
The Special Election allows citizens of the 72nd District to have representation during the upcoming 2008 General Assembly beginning in January.
